Oral Surgery Services
Oral and maxillofacial surgery requires up to 6 additional years of hospital based surgical and anesthesia training. As an oral and maxillofacial surgeons, Drs. Kahn, Trop, Eichner, Smiga, Davies, and Friend manage a wide variety of problems relating to the mouth, teeth and facial regions. Drs. Kahn, Trop, Eichner, Smiga, Davies, and Friend practice a full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery with expertise ranging from corrective jaw surgery, traumatic injury management, and wisdom tooth removal. They can also diagnose and treat facial pain, facial esthetics and TMJ disorders, and perform a full range of dental implant procedures.
Wisdom teeth extraction is necessary when the third molars are prevented from properly erupting within the mouth. Impacted wisdom teeth may grow sideways, partially emerge from the gum and even remain trapped beneath the gum and bone. Drs. Kahn, Trop, Eichner, Smiga, Davies, and Friend, can evaluate the position of the wisdom teeth and predict present or future problems. Studies have shown that early evaluation and treatment result in a superior outcome for the patient. Patients are generally first evaluated for wisdom teeth problems in the mid- teenage years.
Dental implants are changing the way people live. Patients with dental implants can smile with confidence. Drs. Kahn, Trop, Eichner, Smiga, Davies, and Friend are able to place single stage implants that do not require a second procedure to uncover them. There are even situations where the implants can be placed at the same time as a tooth extraction – further minimizing the number of surgical procedures. Advances in dental implant technology have made it possible to extract teeth and place implants with crowns at one visit. This procedure, called “immediate loading,” greatly simplifies the surgical process.
